How to Jailbreak using Seas0nPass tutorial – Apple TV 2G
Pre-launch checklist
- Download and install the latest version of iTunes (check for updates through Software Update located in Apple menu).
- Download Seas0nPass (CURRENT VERSION: 0.6.6 – fixes wi-fi networking issue)
- A micro USB cable (or this cable) will be required to complete the jailbreak.
How to Jailbreak Apple TV 2G using Seas0nPass
Step 1:Unzip the ‘Seas0nPass.zip’ file and launch Seas0nPass.
Step 2: If your AppleTV is not yet jailbroken, select ‘Create IPSW’. (if already jailbroken, and you just need to do a ‘tethered boot’ scroll down).
Step 3: The latest AppleTV software will be downloaded and used to create a custom ‘jailbroken’ software file.
Step 4: When prompted, connect your AppleTV using a micro-USB cable (leave power disconnected), and hold both the ‘MENU’ and ‘PLAY/PAUSE’ buttons for 7 seven seconds
Step 5: iTunes will open automatically and start the restore process
Step 6: iTunes will confirm the restore when complete – your AppleTV is now jailbroken. Please proceed to the ‘tethered boot’ section (if your AppleTV software version requires it.)
KNOWN ISSUES:
After jailbreaking with Seas0nPass some users have reported not being able to see anything on their television when using the HDMI output. FireCore has been notified of the problem and we will give you a solution as soon as it is made known to us. Until then, you can try doing a tethered boot of your ATV per one of our readers suggestion.

Strange…completed all as stated….
upon install of aTV Flash Black…
HDMI input not showing? Light on unit blinks when remote used to hit menu, play etc…but nothing on screen.
Reboot (menu/play hold) only brings up Apple logo. Sits here for 30 min. ???
Any advice?
Try doing a tethered boot to get back into the UI per Dan’s suggestion
I had same problem of apple logo on the screen even after tethered boot. Did you resolve this problem?
exciting, anyone tried this yet?
I haven’t yet but it looks like a great tool! Finally some developers taking a good interest in the Apple TV 2G
Hey Rick, I got the same problem after upgrading my atv flash this morning.
My ATV won’t output through HDMI anymore.
If you don’t get an HDMI output or are stuck at the Apple logo then all you have to do is do a tethered boot to get back into the UI
Thanks for the update Dan, I will update the post!
Who published this untested piece of s…? =(
These are the official instructions from FireCore. The only problem people seem to be experiencing is issues with HDMI output which is being looked into. Please have patience.
the same problem here, black screen after install of aTV flash… tried to reboot tethered, doesnt work, just black screen.
FireCore has been notified of the issue and we will report a solution as soon as we hear from them. Thanks!
This thing upgraded me to 4.1.1, and since I didn’t save my SHSH files, I can’t downgrade it back to 4.0! Thanks a lot Fire Core now I’m stuck with having to tether boot!!
It is clearly stated in the tutorial that this method will download and install the LATEST firmware on your device. If you performed the jailbreak without having your SHSH saved you have nobody to blame but yourself.
After doing these step the HDMI output is OK.
It works as before, there is an opened SSH port, but it refuses to connect.
A try a tethered boot, but my computer doesn’t recognize the device any more.
I´ve done everything like in the tutorial, but after all i have no jailbreak on my apple tv. i cant install atv flash and connecting via terminal doesn´t work….
so i think that there is no jailbreak on my device?
yupp. this thing deff sucks. i must say.
Is it normal to Tethered everyday day??
‘cos when I wake up every morning I notice my ATV2 led is blinking and when I turn on the tv the apple logo is there and it doesn’t go any further… then I need to reconnect ATV2 and Tether again
is this normal??
ummm, anyone here have success with SeasonPass? The only comments are from people with ATV w black screens.
I want to try but want some good feedback though.
Great job! Finally we got an easyway to do jb to latest fw! thanks a lot and keep up the good work.
Only little problem I got is the wifi, its not finding any networks and cannot set it manually. Ethernet works like charm and im watching .avi as im typing this trough Plex.
How sweet is that! Any solutions for the wifi-problem?
Please download the latest version of Seas0nPass version 0.6.6 to fix the wi-fi networking issue here
Used the latest Seas0npass (0.66) but still have the problem.
Guys—I have two Apple TV 2Gs that I have jailbroken with your help—thanks again! One with seas0npass and the other with the standard pwnage instructions on appletvblogr.com. Both have been working great and streaming with Plex, etc. installed via ATVFlash and working great for days.
After about three days both seem to have lost HDMI output. I can hear the sound from the menu/remote buttons but neither output video. Have you seen any that have the HDMI fail after days of working fine?
The only thing that has been done is adding an HDMI switch box and plugging a new HDMI cable on each. The video worked after this but stopped sometime several hours later when I went back to them.
Also the tethered boot seems to fail based on the below, but still actually boots the ATV2 back to a solid light, the beep when I hit menu/remote keys, but still no video out from the HDMI. It is up and running and I can ssh into it, but still no video?
Should I jailbreak them from the beginning again?
Help!
David

I have tried this jailbreak following the instructions exactly as printed 15 times and still no jailbreak.
I keep getting the error message stating that due to unknown error can’t jailbreak. Then it immediately goes into restore mode.
Any help would be appreciated.
Is that the iTunes error message? If so, ignore it.
Tried Seas0nPass 0.6.8 and couldn’t get it to complete a tethered boot after what appeared to be a successful jailbreak. Did the jailbreak process a second time and was able to do a tethered boot after than.
NO idea why it worked the second time. AFAIK I used the same process to boot it both times.
Not sure why you point people to a $10 dollar cable on Amazon
Monoprice.com is king for ALL cables. Here is a 3ft cable, for $1.19 – http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=103&cp_id=10303&cs_id=1030307&p_id=5457&seq=1&format=2
Ok, maybe i’m stupid or something, but i can’t seem to be able to put ATV2 in DFU mode.
I follow the instructions above TO THE LETTER….
Program runs fine at first, it creates the custom IPSW and when i get to the point that i have to enter the DFU mode, i hold Menu+Play/Pause for 7 secs exactly but nothing…
At first i thought, maybe it’s entering DFU Mode and i do not see it..
So i tried a manual iTunes restore (by holding option) and selecting the custom ipsw that the app created in my home folder…
iTunes returns error 21 after a while, so i am guessing that my ATV 2 is not entering DFU mode….
Any help/thoughts/suggestions please?
I’m frustrated
After jailbreaking my ATV2 with Seasonpass, the wifi won’t work. I have restored and jailbreaked it several times, but it still won’t work. Anyone know what to do?
All,
Been looking at jailbreaking my ATV2 but seen the issues with no output from the HDMI output…has this been fixed?
Hi there,
Yes this issue has been fixed in the later versions of the jailbreak applications. You shouldn’t have any problems. If you do, post here and we will get it sorted for you.
Thanks
I tried downloading SeasOnPass and it says it cannot be opened on my computer. How do I open SeasOnPass? I appears apple blocked the application.
Hi Laura,
This will not be the case, it should simply be that the application is not compatible with your computer. Which computer are you using?
Thanks
