XBMC Released for Apple TV 2G!

The XBMC team is proud to present our first ARM-based release, and it’s a big one. Scott Davilla, with the help of several other developers and testers, is finally ready to pull the curtain off of his fun little secret.
You know that $99 tiny form-factor powerhouse that would be just perfect if it could only run XBMC? Now it can.
- Full XBMC install, this is not a remote or thin client streamer.
- No longer is your AppleTV2 chained to iTunes.
- Who wants transcoded video anyway?
- Share files on your network your way.
- Full hardware decode for 720p/1080p movies.
- Everything else you know and love about XBMC.

What is the difference between XBMC and Plex?
hi there. i just installed xbmc on atv2. how do i play videos from my macbook? for some reason i dont seem to be able to locate the files on xbmc atv2?
any help would be greatly appreciated

Just want to join in the previous questions. Which installation should I prefer, Plex or XMBC? Both? I know XBMC from good old XBox days and it was, well, okay. Already got the Plex Media Server running on my MBook and it’s pretty cool.
So, any suggestions about what to install on ATV2 are highly appreciated.

In my opinion I would suggest XBMC. Plex is a great application and when the functionality it brought was just released it was amazing. Now that XBMC has been released, this has bought the ability to play media files from an external drive, this is a huge advantage over Plex.
Anyway, those are my thoughts. What do you think?
Thanks for your fast reply. Streaming from an external media is a huge advantage, for sure, and not having to run my MBook as a Plex Server.
So be it! I will install XBMC first, just when 4.2.1 JB has been released.

Yeah quite a few people are looking forward to the untethered jailbreak, I don’t think it will be to much further away. Be sure to check our website, we’ll let you know as soon as it’s out!
